Our Counselor

Marilyn Blacher-Reich has served clients in Central NJ for over 40 years. She has an office location in Somerville, NJ. Conveniently located near major highways and near public transportation. Office hours are Monday through Thursday by appointment only.

Ms. Blacher-Reich is a contracted provider with most major medical insurance companies. She is also a contracted provider of employee assistance services for many of the companies with facilities in NJ. These services are free through the employees' EAP program.

Ms. Blacher-Reich has experience working with a wide variety of clients. She has worked in comprehensive community mental health centers caring for the severely mentally ill in inpatient and day hospital programs. She has worked as a group counselor for four summers at a nationally recognized residential treatment center for emotionally disturbed children. Since 1982, she has maintained her own practice concentrating on family, couple, and individual treatment. Many of her clients can be treated short term with a problem solving approach. Most clients seek treatment voluntarily. Some are mandatory referrals through the workplace.

Ms. Blacher-Reich is very familiar with the history and the growth of Central New Jersey having grown up in one of the small towns in the area. She has witnessed the growth and diversification of the population and the stress associated with living in such a highly populated part of the state. On a positive note, she is very familiar with available resources which can complement treatment. She is also knowledgeable about leisure time pursuits in the area.

Ms. Blacher-Reich received degrees from Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pa and from The School of Social Service Administration of The University of Chicago. She is a licensed clinical social worker in NJ since its inception as well as a certified employee assistance counselor since its inception in 1987. She is a long standing member of the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) and the Employee Assistance Professional Association (EAPA).
